For steps, I'd make them 6' to 8' wide and center them to the porch. It would look more upscale if you could do stone or brick steps, especially if you could include cheekwalls.

For landscape suggestions, better pictures needed. Stand about 30' from the house wall, centered on front door and take OVERLAPPING pictures that span the WHOLE front and surroundings beyond (extra space at each end.)

Love the porch! You can go a couple of routes with this. My advice would be to do either full length steps (yes!) or nice and wide (8' as Yardvaark has suggested). I would carry the wood/composite to the ground with the white riser/wood grain tread look so the porch and steps all work together as one. You can change to hardscape on the ground level. If you decide against the full length steps, my advice would be to skirt in the remaining exposed porch with the horizontal siding/shake siding/lattice/etc (your choice). You can keep the skirting the same color as the siding or go all white to match the trim, my strong preference being all white. The prairie style grills in the door and window should help guide your planting theme. Grasses, ornamental boulders, ground covers, evergreen clusters, etc. Do a little research on prairie style planting to see if that fits your personal taste, because it certainly fits the architecture.

We agree with Yardvaark, CB Conlin and Dig Doug. If you do wood steps match it up with the decking material on the porch which looks to be Ipe??? I like Doug's design, but I might flip the plantings to the left. Sometimes prefer stuff to be off center, but that's just my personal aesthetic... That said, don't think you can go wrong with either stone or wood. Stone to match the retaining wall would work and obviously wood to match the porch would as well. House looks beautiful!

I have the plantings to the right to help create a slightly private seating area.

There's a lot you can do with the front yard and steps depending on your cost. Like others have suggested, you might want to put in wider steps, maybe do stone steps with a paver pathway out to the driveway. I would encourage planting some grasses off to the right of the steps if your facing the house, not to close to the steps, and maybe put some small flowers in a bed around the grasses. It also could look good to run a flower bed from near the step across the front of your home and along the retaining wall.

As for the large open space in the front and side of your yard there are so many options. You can do a few different flower beds to break up the area, including one farther out towards the curb with a tree in it to add some closure to your yard if you want. You could do planter boxes along the side of the house if you like gardening to help get some elevation away from critters. There even looks like enough space to do a small circle patio with firepit if you really want out in the middle area 45 degrees and 30-40 ft out from the retaining wall if you want though it would lack some privacy being in the front yard. So many options.

Ultimately I'd check out some local landscape design firms or contractors portfolios to get some more visual ideas.

Definitely go with carpentry to grade. The pure white risers will draw more attention to the entry than stone would. All the risers in a staircase should match and If you do go the stone route for the remaining 3, they won’t. My vote goes to full width steps with a single rail attached to the right side trim leading down to base of stairs (if required by code in your area). I’d do a full width paver/brick/stone landing at grade which can be narrowed via curves or squared off lines as the walk continues. Beautiful home, good luck on your project!

I think the house looks lonesome.

I see it is in a wooded area but now that the house is built you can add trees more near the house. I suggest a small tree on the right and a larger tree on the left corner. Neither tree should be planted any closer than ten feet from the house. Fifteen feet is probably safer.

I like a full width steps for your porch. Have them match the porch. Then a landing of the same hardscape you use for the driveway. The rest of the landscaping can be simple if you seek low maintenance.
