This is the red I envision.

We did a cherry backsplash for a kitchen a while back and this is how it turned out, I just wanted to share. It's great that you included a pic of what you envisioned by the way for better visualization, though to me, there needs to be other items/areas in the room so that the color is balanced out.

Your kitchen is more traditional to begin with especially with the wood details. If you are looking to give this kitchen a modern update, I would suggest staining the cabinets a darker shade and I think light colored tiles could look great. If you want the red to work you should look at the color wheel and find a color that compliments the red.



This is a renovation we did, and the backslash could be the type of tile you are looking for. While there is no permanent red in the kitchen, we decided to use red accents for a pop of color.

I like the cherry back splash. Thank you. Maybe a back splash with a some red accents would tie it all together. I did a search, but cannot find anything with red that would look good.

Well, it's certainly a matter of taste but I like your kitchen very much right now. I think the red looks terrible. I'd choose a calm backsplash in a travertine in a color similar to the floor tile.

This might sound abit out-there but try googling penny's in resin, it looks great and I think it would work with you're colour scheme

This kitchen reminded me of what you are describing with the red accent and the linen look tiles. Maybe some inspiration for you here.

Obviously, my rendering is not exactly how I picture it. WIth that being said, I wanted the window/sink area to be a focal point. The window is pretty massive (with a great view of the wooded area) as well as the faucet (27"h with two heads). I would like to direct focus that way.

As you can see in sam0705's post, the red is as much 'in-your-face' as my illustration. I still like the red, but am up for considering other colors/styles.

The pennies surely are different. Not bad, but also not what I am looking for. Thanks though.

Here are a couple of ideas about incorporating some red (just for options other than a whole area of red). I love the look of this floor and I think it can be modified for a backsplash.

This is the closest I could find to what you are describing since most of the photos of a backsplash around a window are going to be the same as under the cabinets. I would try searching houzz kitchens for "tile around window" you will get lots of visuals for taking tile around the window.

Go for it on all walls. Buy some and live with it on wall. It's a bold color.

OK, you probably don't want to hear anymore from me since I'm the one that thought the red is terrible. But, I also absolutely love the floor with the bits of red in it that sam0705 posted!

I'm with Ann! I don't love the red at all. A backsplash is a fairly permanent thing and you may tire of the red quickly. How about a neutral backsplash with funky decorative red accents? So much easier to live with. Also, as a realtor, I always looks at resale, and I've seen homes with crazy tiles sit on the market for a loooong time, because so many people are afraid of the expense of changing them. And as you know, when homes sit on the market for a long time, the bottom line price is usually much less than it could or should be.

A muted red can work as well. I'm going to look for some tile that may work. I like a more modern look. Looking for glass or similar. I do not really want subway tile. I like crackled/broken glass, but already used it at my shore house. You cannot see it that well in the image, but it looks very cool!

what about stainless steel under cabinets and red around window?

FYI: the crackled/broken glass is around the hood. Similar to this...

I thought about that, but not sure if that will be too much stainless in the kitchen. Below is a pic of the other section.

On a side note, I recently moved in and working on projects all over the house.

A more neutral backsplash would be better,more calming.But if you like the idea of red it is your home.

I love sam0705 pic and I did not like the other reds. You could also consider, tho I do not know if it is modern, is a more orangey or burgundy tile. I don't know what style it would be called but you sometimes see the look in a mission style theme but it can be modern. They are usually 3 by 3 and not a smooth finish. Just making a suggestion. Food for thought.
