Nice room. Keep it simple and don't overdo it with furniture or decorations. I don't think you need any more furniture in the room. It would feel too crowded. Likewise, I wouldn't put anything in the niches by the fireplaces. Just leave them be. The only thing I would add to this room is an area rug and a piece of art on the wall over the sofa. I think a grouping of four or six pictures would look nicer than one large piece in this case.

Hi barblewc! That's a very nice room you have. I agree that you need a large area rug for the space. Make sure that it is large enough that at least the front feet of both couches fit on it. I have had very good luck buying large wool rugs from overstock.com. I don't know what your seating needs are, but izeve is right that you should forego any more permanent seating in the room. However, if you do have large groups over regularly, consider using side chairs from your dining room for temporary extra seating. They don't take up much space and can be left in the dining room when not needed.

I would activate those niches on either side of the fireplace and add more energy and texture to the room by doing one or two things with them. Below you see a tall open shelf from overstock.com and an example of a vertical black and white print. I would put one of those two in the right side niche and a tall live plant on the left side in the sunlight. Dracaena massengea is a good choice for that location. There's a picture of that below. Putting the plant in a big pot would add a bit of color and shine to the room.

If you don't want a live plant, I would get two of the shelves and place them on either side. The fireplace wall is very symmetrical, so that would work well. Adding books, ceramic or metallic pots, and small boxes or baskets to the shelves would increase the visual interest in the room.

groveraxle! Good to "see" you. So glad you could show barbiewc how a beautiful print would look in the room. But look at how unbalanced this makes the room look when all the color other than the walls, is on one side of the room.

I still say this room would benefit from some contrast in it. If barbiewc were to get an art print for the walls and pull some of those colors out into the room in pillows or throws, that would work. I also agree about the sisal rug. Perfect for by the Sound.

hsharrington wants some color spread around the room, so to go with this art I hung, I painted your chair. I don't really think you need to, but depending on your art, you could sprinkle an accent color around the room.

For me this is so much better when the color shows up in other places, too. But this is such a beautiful room. You must LUV sitting in there Barbiewc!

The TV is 80", no other place in the room for hanging it. With the size of the TV, it can be seen from every place on the floor. It may seem the sofa is far away but it's not.

The space by the stair doesn't need anything.

I notice you have a canvas sitting on the floor. It looks to be the wrong aspect ratio for over the sofa, but if there were a matching painting, you might hang the two side-by-side. Birds facing each other, please.

That's a large canvas, 52" high, that's waiting to be framed in a rustic frame. It will be hung in the stairwell at the landing where the ceiling is high.

Your room is beautiful, leave the niches beside the fireplace, they add depth and contrast to th room. If you put anything in one of them, a large round jute basket not tall at all, just to show more contrast. You have done a lovely job. You do need a carpet tie things together and then I'd call it a day..

a couple of plants, but personally the way you have it is in my personal opinion perfect. i wouldnt change a thing.
