I think it somewhat depends on the size of the bathroom and what other lighting you have in the room. When I had a Jack-n-Jill bathroom redone, I had lights over the mirror and a fan/light combo added in the walk-in shower. I love this option because the fan/light included a “nightlight” feature which can be used at night when using the toilet. In my master bathroom reno, we added recessed lighting in the ceiling, as well as lights by mirrors, so only a fan was installed (no additional lighting was needed). Good luck with your project!

Put a timer switch on the fan (if fan only). I finally did this and I love it.
