Vessel Sinks: Complete Guide, Basics, and Pros and Cons

Look closely at the interior of the cabinet to see what the space looks like. Some vessels are all on top, some require a cutout and hang down below a bit. What kind of faucet? Will it mount on sink or behind or beside the sink? Think it through and measure carefully.

I've found from the past bowl vessel sinks especially in glass to be a GIANT pain. We had a large glass bowl vessel sink for some time in a half bath in our downstairs and it was very, very hard to keep it looking nice and get it clean around the base and looking nice. A metal or other might not be as bad if you don't have three teen boys using it often :( Overall, I find many today nice to look at, but not very functional IMO.

The sink shown above is much easier to manage with cleaning vs solely based on appearance and not function. Really depends on the space and how large it is. A photo of the space if you have a cabinet in place and the lighting you mentioned would be of help.

If you love a vessel choose a solid color, metal or porcelain.

A true bowl is very hard to keep clean at the base such as the second above or what I had below....

I had a vessel just as as below as well as the faucet mounted to the wall and cleaning it was horrible and around the tiny base as well. Sorry, I got a bit passionate about this!! My 87 year old mother at the time said, "do not do that" gave me all the reasons and she was right god bless her!

if doing a vessel, please mount the faucet to the wall. it makes cleaning so much easier. you can also do vessel sinks that sit partially in the countertop. I had one years and years ago that was hand blown glass that we set halfway. (I didn't have a wall mount faucet and regretted that decision). you also want one where the water hits dead center on the drain to avoid any splashing.

since you have crystal and quartz, find something that bounces the light. coat the inside of the glass bowl with RainX to keep the spots at bay

Great timing on this question for me, as we are in the middle of a new build & I also was looking at vessel sinks for the masterbath>>> it is rough in/plumbed for 2 sinks, but because the vanity there will only be 61" ( to have a tower on each end) I had planned on using 2 smaller vsinks. Now I am wondering if I should just go with one Vsink.. The quartz is: Azul Aran, with a thunder grey cabinets
