Photos of lights?

I actually think a jewel tone paint might add needed drama to your hall. Or some vibrant colorful art if you are not a deep paint color person.

What do you guys think of a narrow console table with some decoration and a lamp with a little bit of glare, not that much light? Would it look nice?

art you like. and I might consider finding cool vintage wall chandelier/bigger sconce..they often look interesting and sculptural, much like art in their own righ..while adding light of course. but one should be into them. not everybody is.

flooring, LED lights, crown molding-all good suggestions..but you might have a good reason to have carpet there, I don't know..

when something is boring to me I choose what will have the most effect of being not boring..to me, that'd be arts, crafts, lights, plants..something I can move with me and enjoy wherever, you know

other things require more consideration, money..they elevate place for sure. they don't prevent you from using other things, they create different background. you can decide whether to invest in creating that background or not

console might be cool if you have enough clearance for it. here function trumps the form. somebody walks there at night-you don't want them to stumble. if you have enough clearance-yeah, great idea. One can lean art there, put an interesting light, books eve..you name it.

On this picture, the measurements from ac wall to the closet wall is 44 in, this is the wall you see when you come up the stairs, and it is the only wall with an outlet to connect a lamp, the wall is approximately 77 inch. I was thinking that placing a console table with a 12 inch depth would leave enough space to walk, what do you think? would it look too crowded? I was considering a 40 inch long console with a 12 inch depth.

A lot of great ideas here. Since you are on second floor, a tubular daylighting device (like Solatube) will work wonders to brighten up this hall, and can be had for about $750 installed. I'm attaching a photo of a basement stairway in a ranch house where we dropped a Solatube down through the attic and made the stairway safer and more welcoming.

When we purchased the house a year ago it came with carpet, we would like to install hardwood floor in a future, but it is not a project that we have in mind right now.

Absolutely a solatube or two. It can have an integrated light, but you could also add other lighting.

More ceilng lights and perhaps picture shelf/ledges on the wall to lean framed items on. This allows you to change display frequently.

12 inch might be a good plan, but you won't find many that have this width. I went though this..I mean through a research..I still didn't find anything personally satisfying..not that I delved into this research as deep as I can, but some preliminary research shows there are not many options

I do remember Room and Board (if I'm not mistaken) have very slim consoles..if you're into very simple, modern, streamlined. They have it in many colors. These are cool..again, if one is into the aesthetic.

One can always DIY or ask for customization though..say you find a piece that you can, potentially, make narrower..

In short, requires research. But yes, something slim, for sure.

I would not put a long narrow table there. I think it will just make the space feel cramped. The are some wonderful wall decor ideas presented here that would be stunning-and more lighting of course.

Lights now, a colorful runner later. Pictures? I tried that for a few years in my dark, narrow back hall - decided that a nice tone-on-tone patterned wallpaper was much better and kept it from being "closed in". One step at a time - get the lighting first, then the rug, then see what works. You do not have room for furniture.
