Sad story, possibly

It's a long and sad story but someone mistakenly took the bag of Dahlia tubers I'd been storing in my basement and threw it into a pile of trash outside. He's looking for it but they may be spending another night outside until he can find it. I'm here in Boston and it's been down into the 20s at night. Are my precious Dahlia tubers salvageable after a couple of nights outside in that kind of weather? Or are they killed quickly at these temperatures?

Yes, a sad and frustrating thing to occur! I can only say if those dahila tubers have received any significant amount of freezing they'll unfortunately be lost ... and, yes, they do freeze easily.

Rick - try to hold a little hope. I left my dahlias in the ground REALLY late this season and they all appear to be fine. They even managed to ensure several frosts before I dug them up. Since they are possibly with trash perhaps it will help insulate them? Let us know how it turns out!

OK, false alarm. I just discovered that the tubers never left the basement after all....
