Kitchen "style" dilemna

I am starting a kitchen remodel and suddenly feel overwhelmed by making the decision on flooring and counter tops to go with my kitchen cabinets. Cabinets are bought and on their way....Whiskey Black stain for the back wall with Chocolate island and range hood. Now from here my decisions go awry. My original idea was to incorporate a Travertine (porcelain) laid in a Versailles pattern and granite, but worried about creating a dated kitchen - too much beige on beige stuff. Also felt that while the style with granite was good together, I struggled with the idea that granite is dated vs going with quartz. I want an updated look (NOT a white cabinet nor particularly modern style person) but want an updated appearing and not out dated kitchen when I am done. I found a nice grey/taupe/beige 12x24 tile that blends great with a Calcutta Manhattan quartz that has taupe/grey/goldish tones in the veins. However....I am just not sure if those "styles" work together...i.e. somewhat rustic cabinets, w/slightly modern 12x24 tile and quartz? I am attaching the samples. Pics: new cabinets and quartz or granite options and last pic is current kitchen layout....not changing the footprint, just getting rid of cherry and laminate. Looking for advice, thoughts??

In my opinion, granite is lovely, and even though many granites are not exactly in vogue right now, I think that's different from being outdated -- granite is rather timeliness and I wouldn't hesitate to use it. That being said, wood stained cabinets + dark granite + "stone" backsplash is a combination that could read dated (and dark), so I think you are right to give it some thought. If you choose a lighter granite and use a simple light colored neutral glass tile (one color that pulls out a light color in your granite), that would be a lovely transitional look along the lines of these photos.

Given the darker colors in your cabinets, I would make sure to keep both the backsplash and flooring light. Not a gray, which doesn't seem to go with your other choices, but instead a light warm neutral that goes with your countertops.

In my opinion, both your quartz and the gray flooring are a little too modern looking for the stain and style of your cabinets, and the colors are also a bit cool when combined with what you already have.

Is the cabinet door the new one you are purchasing? The chocolate brown? It looks an awful lot like the cherry cabinets you have now. Are you donating the recycling the old ones? They look in beautiful shape.

Black and brown cabinets and dark countertops and flooring is too much dark. Also, having movement in both the floor and the countertops is also too much. I'd select either the floor or the countertops with the movement and keep the other plain.

The cabinets in the pictures are the ones being purchased, they are Alder. I don't think the photo's do the glazing justice...the redder ones will have a darker texture than the very monotone current cherry cabinets. And yes I did actually sell the existing cabinets to a friend building a new house. : ) I agree that we would only have one "feature or movement" piece in the kitchen. Right now the flooring would have the movement that would blend with the vein in the quartz. My thought was that I wanted to keep the flooring and counters lighter....but I may have gone too far with the tone and contrast. That was my fear....I have a ton of natural light with huge picture windows that overlook a lake, so don't think I will have an issue with being overly dark, but definitely don't want to end up with all dark tones in the kitchen. Thanks so much for everyone's input....I appreciate it! So would you keep in with more warmer beige....but how would I keep it "fresh" and not bland.....granite?

Good for you reusing your old cabinets--I did the same thing!

Out of the three choices, I like the colors in the first photo best. I still think though that the flooring and the countertop have movement and veining that will compete with each other. So I'd use a plain white quartz with the grey tiles.
