Although leggy plants have their own kind of beauty, I would rather grow a new plant from cuttings, instead. Just prepare a pot with soil right for succulents, put it in a bright spot, but not in the sunlight, and try to root a few leaves first. If that doesn't work try to grow a new plant from the stem cutting. There is plenty of info on the Net how to do that. And keep it simple!

I believe what you have is some variety of Aeonium, and what you have there is exactly how aeonium grow. They lose the bottom leaves and end up with a rosette on the end of a branch like stem:

I'm not really sure about the propping.... I don't have any big/long enough that I've needed to make that decision. It might be a personal preference.

The propping is a matter of taste. But if you continue to do it I'd find something less egregious. A piece of natural split cane no taller than the stem and a natural tie such as raffia or sisal would look far better. But the plant shouldn't really need support if it's growing sturdily. Perhaps it needs more light? Or you could cut it back and plant the pieces in the same pot to get a bushier look.

I’d chop it in these two spots, stick the two tops into the soil as it is right now and keep it dry for 3 weeks. The two stems will spurt new growth, and by then, the cuttings should root. As others have mentioned, it looks like some kind of Aeonium, which means it’s growing season is...well, now.

Check the very edge of each leaf, with a magnifying glass if necessary. Aeoniums have a fringe on the leaf edges, like tiny eyelashes. Echeverias do not.
