Careing for ‘rescue’ trees...

Hello all

i just bought about 15 citrus trees that were end of season getting dumped. They are in comparatively good shape, but growing season won’t start for about 2 - 3 months. There’s lots of crispy leaves in development. All are in small pots, but were obviously root hacked before sale.

should I pot them up now ready for the season? Or leave them in their sale pots until just before the growing starts?

p.s. I just started experimenting with thermostatically controlled heat mat for sredlines, perhaps I could make something for these small trees ? Would preferred to just wait till growing season starts and do it the easy way though.

Those are really tiny pots. I would upgrade them and take my chances.

I will for sure, just that the soil never dries out. Some are soggy. The roots were cut and it’s around freezing every Night...

Well, I started to repot, and most of them the roots are in good shape and root bound. However, a few seem to have not recovered much from the root hack job that was done on them, and would explain the poor foliage condition, like this dekapon:

I will just keep all the new trees in these 12 liter pots for one season until I decide what to do with them. Still, I wonder if even this pot is too big? I have some half the size I could use for the root damaged trees. While we are on the topic of pots, I noticed my citrus always seem to be craving thinner taller pots.
