pretty darn smart bea! what a great idea ... wish i had thought of it! heavy duty plant stands are so expensive. actually i've never seen a plant stand that's as easy to move around as yours. pretty great. maybe needs a paint job ... maybe some fake vines ... some way to make it look less like a lawn mower. we were about to trash our beat up push mower ... i may try this.

Those pieces of wood you see beliw the pot were placed there because mowers have an elevated part in the center beliw the engine and, the pot being 22" in diameter, I was afraid too much would hang loose and the pot might crack eventually.

oh yeah ... i didn't think about that ... never took one apart to use as a mobile plant stand. you could use those to attach other pieces of wood to paint ... like a low box around the big pot and then paint it something cute. i was also thinking maybe add smaller pots to the handles somewhere to get more planting real estate.

maybe it'll catch on and all the old lawn mowers will be used for mobile plant stands and not go into the landfills. maybe you'll create a new trend. :)

I know Sweet! i did a search on google and pinterest to get some ideas on decorating one and saw nothing remotely like it ... didn't see any upcycled push mowers at all ... used for anything. genius idea indeed. i never thought to take the engine off and upcycle them. it's usually pretty easy to find one too ... that was dumped or for cheap at a yard sale.

i have a dwarf mango tree that would be easier to move around on one of those. not sure the door opening on my little green house is wide enough for it to fit though, but i could wheel it onto the porch with that.

sure hope bea is going to embellish it ... can't wait to see what she does.

Since we're talking recycling here is another use for an old mower. I needed a wheel barrow with four wheels. The three wheeled one didn't work for me for gardening…it kept falling over. So my DH built this out of left over (from another project) pieces of pressure treated plywood. That was about 15 years ago and it's still going strong!

BTW, I get my pots, big and small, pretty cheap at my local garden center. They have a big pile of used black pots at the back of the property that if not sold end up at the landfill eventually. The big one above cost me $5! All I have to do is paint them white.

Many garden centers have them (not big box stores) you just have to ask!

yes bea ... another great idea for an old push mower. now i'm not sure which one i will end up getting hubby to make. i'd get more use out of the push wagon probably. i'd add a water bottle holder somewhere. those old things really are a great resource. you've got nice wheels, a nice handle ... nice frame ... it's easy to push ... it won't tip over ... lots of possibilities. 15 years on your push wagon ... and it's still going strong ... how great is that?!

so ben do you have one for hauling your fishing gear out on a pier? the push wagon would be a great gear hauler.

About the mower engine from the mobile plant stand. We returned it to the junkyard which also repairs outdoor equipment. He will use it for parts for other mowers…one less thing in the landfill :) :) :)

Ben, you could paint it and decorate with images of different fish!

Sharon I've been trying to figure out how to decorate my plant stand but I'm not artistic at all…just very practical. So when you make and decorate yours please post photos so I can get inspired :)
