Drapes dilemma??

Does these drapes go well with the rug? Ignore the patterned drapes, they’ll be gone soon. I was originally looking for more bluish drapes but this greenish-bluish one seems to work. What do you think?

Hard question to answer without seeing the entire room. If you have all dark furniture or big bulky dark pieces, then the dark blue might darken the room too much. It is a beautiful blue, the rug is light, and so are the floors, so the curtains might be good. Again, we need to see everything in the room.

I have added two photos from the room. We don’t have much furniture in the area at the moment but I would buy light colored armchairs in front of the fireplace. Also, the drapes on the other side of the room would be replaced with the same drapes here.

I added a photo with a piece of the window panel. I’m not sure how to take the whole thing down but I hope it gives an idea about the color.

I will think about moving the rod higher.

I think the color look fantastic. Just keep your furniture lighter as you mentioned. You have a beautiful room to work with.

Thank you phuninthesun! The more I look at the pictures, the more I agree with you by the way. I think I’ll move the rod up and get the 95” panels instead (these are 84”). They look a little short to me the way they are so hopefully this will address that issue as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

So here’s a follow up question. When you’re moving the rod up high, how do you avoid hitting the beam? We have been hitting the beam with the anchors we got and we are not sure if a smaller anchor can bear the weight of the drapes and the rod (it’s about 20 pounds altogether). Any suggestions?

Just screw it into the beam without using an anchor.

The blue are very nice but too short .

I would also replace rod with one that is a little thicker and darker, black or bronze.

I think the beam is metal because it won’t budge. We tried drilling and it won’t go in. So we have to go something with short. Genevive I already got the longer drapes, I’m moving the rod up at the moment. Jan I’ll think about it, thanks for your comment

It is possible if the construction is new, it is built with steel studs. If they are steel, you can pilot a hole with a titanium bit or use self drilling screws made for steel framing. If it is just sheet metal over a wood beam, the same applies. Make sure you are using a small drill bit just to make the pilot hole. You want to make sure the screw goes in tight.

would it be possible to turn the rug? It look too close to the window from the picture that I see.

We got around it by cutting a tiny bit from the end of the anchor. Now the rods are up and I’m waiting to get the drapes hemmed (they need to be 2” shorter so they’re about an inch off the floor). I’m leaving the rods for now as I want to have the drapes raised and ready, I feel like I’ll spend a long time looking for a new rod. These drapes took a year to find.

Genevive the table is about 45 inches away from the window so there’s plenty of space there. If I turn the table, the space in front of the fireplace will be oddly small for anything so I’d prefer to keep it this way.
