Anything that pleases your aesthetic sensibilities is fair game. I wouldn't recommend it in a contemporary and compact kitchen such as yours. If you choose to go that route, do be aware that dusting the area can be cumbersome.

When time and budget allows, I'd consider cabinets that go to the ceiling for additional storage space.

I know everyone says 'nothing' but why not have a little fun up there? I had little vignettes above my cabinets. We are in the process of a kitchen reno so I took them all down. Oh how plain and boring it looked without them. I plan on putting them back up when the reno is done. Put up there what is true to you. I like to home can so I have my black and white speckled canning pot up there alond with a little collection of some of my canned goods.

If I end up with a space like that I’m going to leave it empty but for a small sculpture of some kind and then I will see who notices it.

Just don’t put fresh vegetables up there. (One house I rented, when we were moving in, I found an unopened package of sugar snap peas on top of the cabinets!)

Nothing. Is that a pantry door? I would change to a pretty glass one.

Whatever you put up there WILL be dripping with cobwebs...all the time. Yuck.
