HI -- No - do not do that as it will be a problem you won't like . Either shorten the island or attach to the wall making a peninsula .

1' is odd. Don't do that. If you're considering attaching the "island" to a wall, it's no longer an island. You would be better off having a U-shaped kitchen in that case.

HI -- Can that 10 foot wall be altered such as removing or putting in a door way or shortening . If you made a doorway and then add the island to the wall then you could still have an island . I would not do a " U " kitchen as it will be too closed in and small and there will be two horrible corners to deal with. And corner cabinets and the insides are expensive for what use they do. Maybe find a kitchen designer to consult .... that is what I use to do.
