I agree. Never put anything on a tv stand. Too much clutter and distracting. I’d put a tripod floor lamp in the corner next to the sofa and a plant on the other side of the tv

Agree with not putting anything on the console. I think that the color of the console blending in with the wall color makes it fade into the background, so the TV ends up being a focal point... which is fine while you're watching it. Agree that a plant or lamp on one or both sides of the TV would look nice, and draw some attention away from the TV. What are those white rectangles on the wall? Art would be nice there...

What do you mean by "sad"? You don't like it or you want décor on it? Can it be used else where and a wider console put under the TV? A console as wide as the vent space would fill the wall.

I agree with the above posts, the reason your tv stand looks off is because it is too small. Your console is great. Do you have another spot for it?

The small speaker placement isn't helping. Is it possible to move them lower and closer to the tv? If you aren't able to move the speakers, a larger console would allow you to add some decorative items on either side of the tv that would make the speakers less noticeable.

Thank you for the ideas. I’m going to blame my husband’s big tv and surround sound speakers as the issue The stand is new ... so I’d be really sad to move it. I’m totally bummed I got one too small. I’ll try the floor lamp and plant to help. Should they both be on the same side? Any other suggestions to help the area while still leaving the stand?

Do you know if you can get another stand just like it? You could put two of them side by side, centered under the tv, if you want something longer. I agree that your room is very pretty.

It would be nice if the cabinet were longer. That said-

Are you movie buffs/fans? Each side, to the left/to the right of the speakers offers an opportunity to frame a cool poster from your favorite movies. Looking at the room, to the left- thin and long. To the right, you could do a couple. Framed the same, adds color and personality to the room- some decor without looking cluttered. Can be fun conversation points, too.

I’m totally kicking myself because they sell a longer 72” stand and I got the 54”. It’s way past the return period unfortunately. This wall has a lot of space. So maybe I can add some other items to help?

Your sofa, curtains and rug are lovely. Your console is great just too small. You aren't a bad decorator! To me decorating is like a puzzle. Some pieces look like they fit but they are off just a little bit and don't work.

If you can convince your dh to move the speakers you might be able to do something like this. The top is too cluttered but the proportions are good. And the word plaque isn't necessary.

d_gw, the pic above you posted looks good in terms of static objects. But what happens when you turn the tv on? Let's say sports with the score showing in the lower third. Do all the items need to be shuffled around so you can see the screen unobstructed?

Am I the only one who wants to paint the console? It could be larger but color would give it more or a presence. It almost fades into the wall but for the mirrors.

A nice thread.... while I'm here, would it not even help for long wall, down farther, to add a larger chandelier? Seems to add to empty look imo.

I also had thought rub on wax in bronze to deepen it... near tv it's so light. Bev's accent wall - how is that with kitchen? Post it ok?

If having the top of the cabinet bare isn't appealing to you, consider adding a dining table runner. Anything else atop the cabinet would be in the way.

If you want to change the cabinet itself, you could paint the more decorative part of the doors, -- not the door frames; leave them to match the rest of the cabinet.

You might consider adding a floor lamp or lamp table combo or some kind of corner shelving or cabinet or art to the bare corner beside the tv to see if that appeals to you. With something like this you could add some color and/or interest depending upon what you put on the shelves.

You don't need anything on the TV stand, but it would've been nice to see the longer TV stand. Adding elements to either side of the TV stand or painting the wall will help with your dilemma we think. Here is a recent design we did. Take a look at the accent wall, dining room, and the TV area.

You don't need anything on the stand because the front of it has enough going on. Let that be the focal point/star. While I agree it could stand to be a little longer I wouldn't let it bother you about the length. The tv is isn't longer than the console. Enjoy it. :)

After seeing the tv console in relation to your dining area, I’d keep it simple next to the tv bearing in mind that, in the near future, you will also need a large piece of art in the dining area. I still think a plant would be your best choice as it won’t interfere with the speakers.
