What is this backsplash?

My kitchen is very similar in cabinets and color scheme and I'm wanting to incorporate the backsplash and shelf idea into my kitchen but I can't find any information online about it. Can someone help me identify what kind of backsplash is used and where I can purchase? How bout the shelves?

I'm drooling here!

The backsplash is some sort of textured tile kind of like this but not quite

As for the shelves that is a custom installation. Your best bet is to contact local kitchen designers to see who can help you as they would have the resources for specialty tile, custom metal and carpentry. Your question is very easy for them to answer directly and to quote the job based on your conditions.

I would guess a black embossed metal sheet of some type or a black embossed tile. Or you can use black mosaic hex.

Here are a couple pics of my kitchen. We just moved in and didn't get backsplash and shelves completed before doing so. In the first picture below on the wall to the far right I was thinking of putting the shelves like the ones I posted then running the black backsplash from that wall all away around to the refrigerator. Maybe I'll even try to find some concrete wall panels to put around the hood and behind the shelves. Thoughts?

I can see your point Patricia Collwell however that is not a problem for me as my kitchen is very functional and caters to my love of cooking. What I love about the backsplash in the picture I posted is the lack of a grout line. Also the concrete and natural wood compliments my style very well.

Loving this Japanese/Scando fusion.I admire your new kitchen and think you have the space to do the shelves. In the photo it looks like the top shelves are two pieces layered. Note the double thickness that doesn't extend to the ends. IRL, a good welder could make this custom for you. Do you have a link to the specific story on the Decoist?

Backsplash could be anything, including not functional. Are you most interested in the texture, the color or just the general no grout sleekness? The last two could be accomplished with glass.

What is the wood on these cabinets? Seems like it would darken quickly over time.

lack of grout lines but lots of ins and outs to trap dirt to clean, a bumpy surface is not easy to wipe down. It does look great though. I especially like the cabinets pulls. Sleek kitchen and eastern influence for sure.

I can see where you're going with that design. Very nice. I'm not sure of that exact tile, but for texture and a seamless look, there are quite a few possibilities. This first photo is Ann Sacks (Rythme Collection, Grigio). We will be installing this soon in a different color for a client with similar intent.

Another interesting new product that we will also be installing for two different projects in the next month is the Motion line from AKDO. It is quite interesting as it is applied like a wallpaper but is actually manufactured with a layer of fabric behind a small layer of slate. There is video on their website explaining the process. Here's an installed photo and a photo of a black selection from the same Motion line called "pebble". Good luck with your project!
