I recently got a job at Lowes so that I could work there while I finish my schoolwork. I try to keep a close eye on the new plants coming in :) I just picked up a braided Sans cylindrica. I took it home, unbraided it and tied it to some skewers to straighten it back out. The small container that it came in was also ridiculous for its size.

I also purchased what I hope will be a twisted cultivar. I watched it for a while and luckily nobody bought it. Instead of the leaves standing erect like the rest, they all had a nice twirl to them. Hopefully, the new pup coming up will indicate if it will truly grow that way, if not... at least it's a variety I don't have yet.

Stush, I would have bought that pot in the proverbial New York minute. The streaking in those two new offsets on the right is unusual, especially the lower one. Were these Hahnii's or Futura size? Base plants are either Hahnii Marginated or Futura Simplex.

Isn't it still winter up there... I wouldn't have thought stores would be stocking plants yet.

Robdb8, looks like you have Futura Simplex there, but leaves do have a twist to them. I don't think it's a Twisted Sister but that plant is a variety from Futura Simplex like yours. Hopefully your new offsets will develop leaves with more rotation.

Rob, I do see some streaking in yours as well. I think it will continue to show signs in it's pups.

I have definitely started looking carefully at all the individuals, thanks to this forum. Robdb8’s plant reminds me of one I just got recently. The nursery had a shipment of sans labeled Silver Shadow (which seems like it might be a made up name?). They all had straight leaves except this one, which is why I chose it. It’s a little beat up but it has two pups that are also twisted so hopefully will grow out to look really cool.

Sara, I think your plant is called Hahnii 'Streaker'. It is a very unstable variety that changes looks from Twisted Sister to Golden Hahniii and every thing in between. A very lucky find. I lost all of mine and just got one from a friend.

I am not much into house plants. I just have the same ones I have had for years. But I love going to Lowes at least once a week in Robinson during the summer. Oh, the perfectly heathy perennials they put back on there clearance racks for really cheap. Sure they may have already bloomed, one or two brown leafs, or sometimes they are over stocked on the perennial, but perfectly fine. My gardens are filled with Lowes perennials.

Function, You must live close to me. That's the Lowe's I was talking about. I too have purchased many nice perennials on their clearance racks. I purchase some nice hosta that was a little beat up. Next year they were beautiful. More and more people are doing this and if you are late, you loose. I was behind someone who purchased the whole cart and left nothing. I only wanted one but that's how it goes some times.

I tend to go to the home depot in East Liberty, Lowes near Ross Park, or the Best Feed near Babcock. My Fernwood that flowered was from Overbeck's in Blawnox. Always nice to find Pittsburghers.

I lived in North Hill all my life until 4 years ago when we moved to the West Hills. I liked Gigers on Peoples Rd or Brinkles for my annuals. Brinkley is a little expensive though.

I had to start all over with my perennials and bushes when I moved. Except for some bushes and plants around the foundation of the house the yard was pretty barron. It has been fun though and it is still a work in progress.

Two years ago I got a Japanese Red Maple of all places Aulds. Lol It's doing fantastic.

I usually do go to Janowski's. In the fall they also have some fantastic deals. Some times just Walmarts. Last year we went to Bedner's Farm & Greenhouse for the 1st. time. It's a little expensive but high quality.

Look up 'Fellows Gardens' in Youngstown. I know your'll love to go. Bring your camera.

Chris, Had so much on my plate. I have been very busy. Was looking for more variegation. It just might be on their clearance rack by now. Have to make a point to go back and see. One I purchased a few years ago is now showing a lot of strange variegation. Will show a picture of it when I bring it out of the basement winter home. The one pup I removed in fall hasn't grown much but is the weirdest sans in my collection. It has three leaves muted into one. Happen when it hit the inside of pot and tried to sprout. It has a lot of strange variegation.

Stush- That one certainly looks odd. I bet it everntually pups normal (shape) but who knows and always worth keeping an eye on! You say the variegation is strange too and that is very interesting.
