Well, after the fog it started raining again here. I'm just glad we're not getting any wind (at least not yet)!

    Hi Guys!
Came in earlier & saw some politic talk... Thought it best for me to back out slowly...

Good day today! Bobbi! Love the bird! Would love to have one of those to perch on the beach..
Jayme... That light post is really nice... Love it!

Kimdee... Sometimes it's best to just get away from something for awhile... Maybe look for some ideas on the internet... I know when I have a problem balancing something, I get away from it and figure it out in the middle of the night... LoL It will come to you...

    Hugs to all of you!
Hi Patty! Doncha just love it when it hits you in the middle of the night? Wow! It's like 3 AM, and there's the solution! Great.
I really like judge Judy... She can be pretty funny sometimes...
No... I don't... But at least I remember it in the morning... LoL...
That's one thing about me... I never have a hard time sleeping... It can be a curse sometimes... I can sleep for 10 hours and feel great in the morning...

I've got it basically laid out, mostly. Just three more pages to tackle. I thought I had it earlier, then I realized I had twenty-six pages which doesn't work (has to be 24 or 28), so I had to condense. Thing is, I'll do all this and then she'll rearrange it all.

    Mega sigh.

Kimdee - I missed the beginning of the newsletter story ?? I've done newsletters for a couple of organizations, and it's a pleasure working with some people, and awful working for others. The more they "help", the harder they make it! I volunteered to do a newsletter for a group last fall, but when the people who had to give me the info couldn't meet the deadline, I handed it off to them to finish & get printed; their disorganization isn't going to result in my working thru the night to get it done in time!!
Kimdee... Sure hope you get paid by the hour...
Astraea, what's that expression? Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine?
Oh .. that's a BIG newsletter .. more like a booklet! When I handed the newsletter of in February, 90% finished, the person who took over only wanted to impress me with how much he knew about publishing .. and the friends who were layout experts who'd do it for him. In the end, he "did it" himself with was obviously no expertise in wordprocessing.

Bobbi - You hit the nail on the head!! I only reminded 2 of the officers about the deadline 2 or 3 times, and neither of them contacted me until 5 days after the deadline!

Guess I better go figure out what to make for dinner...
I usually plan a week of meals, and go shopping for it... I have been so busy lately... I just didn't feel like doing it last weekend... This week has been "cleaning out the freezer and fridge week"

    Later...
Yeah, it's more like a magazine I guess, than a newsletter. I've been doing it for TEN years with the same person. Just when I think I have her trained... anyhow. Yeah. Missing ads, too much copy, not enough space allotted. Sometimes I feel like it just gets dumped on me to sort out. I shouldn't complain I guess, because I get paid for this, but it's just exhausting sometimes. I've spent 5.5 hours on it already and still have three pages left to work out, and it's only the first draft.

One of my jobs in Silicon Valley I had to load this very important (not to me!) data into the computer, and it had to be done by midnight. NO ONE handed their stuff into me before 5 PM on Friday. And then they left for the day, leaving only me and the IT Dept. there til....wait for it....midnight. Really irritating.

    Annnnnnyhow. Duvet covers. Why??? LOL

I got it washed but it came out kind of wrinkled :( so I had to iron it. It's queen size. Then wrestle the king-size duvet back into it. Sweating.... Swearing.... On the bright side, I think I got it back in the right way (I think it was sideways the last time or something).

Which begs the questions -- why don't they make queensize duvets and covers that are long enough to cover the sides of a deep mattress? Why does the king size duvet fit perfectly into my queen size duvet cover? Yet its still not wide enough to cover both sides of the queen sized mattress....
Kimdee, when the day goes south it just never ends, does it?
Kimdee - that's odd. I have a king duvet (in a king cover) from Ikea and a queen bed. It fits ok, but my bed is so high off the floor it's impossible to get one that fits 'right'

Googled the wi-fi problem. Apparently a known issue with Apple. I really don't want to spend part of my day tomorrow fighting with the folks at the Apple Store.
    Thanks Patty..I like it too..
    -Hope it goes better kimdee!
    -I love aquariums too
-thinking of Disney in FLA in a year or 2...looking to save...was thinking of renting a condo or something in order to see mulitple attractions.
-Duvet covers? I don't get those, aren't they just really thin, like a sheet?
did anyone catch chris christie on one of the jimmy late night shows last night. called him " the luv gov" !
don't think it'll stick. could have been arnolds nickname.
there's been speculation that the democrats next dream team would be hilary and michele O. that way they'd get the womens vote and get 2 former presidents at the same time. scary.
That's what I mean, Robin. If you had a queen duvet/cover, it would be too narrow for your queen bed...
The Company store catalog sells oversized duvets for deeper mattresses.

I like their Primaloft (not real down) as it's washable.
I also prefer the kind of cover that has the ties for the corners to keep the duvet in place in the cover.
cool bedroom with duvet over me. Ah!
    @Jayme, yeah... they're like a giant pillowcase.
I've tried everything. Off to the Apple store tomorrow.
What's the problem, Robin? Maybe I can help.
Oh, i see it now. Wi-fi issue... Try this if you haven't already:

Airplane mode on. Power down the phone. Power up the phone. Airplane mode off. Turn on wi-fi.
I assume that your home wi-fi/router/modem is functioning...
Every other device in the house is working fine (ipod, computer, ipad) It just randomly started the last 2 days. It wasn't even because of an upgrade as I did that AFTER the problem started. I've tried the airplane mode, I've reset the modem, reset my connection settings, and now last resort I've wiped the phone and am restoring from a backup.

bobbi, I've had situations like that where other people were responsible for a particular element of a project and waited to the last minute, then I was there all night or over the weekend pulling everything together. After the first time I figured that they would continue to act accordingly as long as I let them........that's why it became an SOP for me that I built in false benchmark deadlines for team members.........like a week ahead of time from my schedule drop dead dates. My bosses were always privy to the real dates and what I was doing, and at the start of the last (false) week, I started emailing team members with daily reminders that were BCC to the upper management........people, quickly learned that if I told a client or partner that such and such would be completed by a certain date, I was serious and wouldn't cover for their procrastination. Most of my bosses also understood that if I said I needed 5 weeks to make a deadline, then I needed 5 weeks and it would be accomplished. I din't pad my schedules with fluff and slack time........surprisingly most team members were more than willing to work on my projects in repeated fashion.........for that simply reason. I scheduled realistically and didn't hesitate to fight for my schedules. I would say that in my 30+ year career I can count maybe a handful of projects where I missed a scheduled completion date and the majority of those were due to client delays and scope change.
STK, don't think I never thought of that. Unfortunately this was a schedule I could not manipulate. It was always on the last Friday of the month. I begged, I pleaded, no hope! It was what it was. And the worst part? No OT pay, no comp time. When they've got ya, they've got ya. You learn to choose your battles, right?
    So work week is done.
See you all have been talkative today but glad everyone is having a good day. Well maybe not Robin. I was station in Monterey from 1991-1995, one of my best duty stations while I was in the military. I actually got my Associates from Monterey Peninsula College.

Sometimes you run into things that are just beyond your control...... had one project (one of those missed dates) where everything was going good, design documents issued on time and as phased (i.e demolition, rough site work, pad prep, etc., etc.) when we discovered that the site had a one time been (back in the early 1920's) an old crude oil refinery or storage facility. Old storage tanks had been cut off and just filled, sludge pits (chambered) had been filled in.......found out when we had soil borings done.......loaded with contaminants. Nobody knew or had an inkling........one old guy who had to be in his 90's piped up in one of the emergency meetings that he did remember being run out of there once as a child playing in the sludge pits........ but had forgotten all about it, until the reports came in. Everything came to a screeching halt.........turns out the site had actually been part of an old paper mill plant that was on a Federal Toxic Clean Up list and the off site was just added to the bigger mess........but the County owned it now and had to find another suitable site for the project...........we actually only missed the original completion date by 80 days, but spent 4 months living and working on the new site in a true design/build process........literally, quite often we were standing out on the site and designing as they were building. Every morning meeting was attended by the contractors, the code authorities, the user, the country (owner) rep and the design team discipline leads where we pulled prints from the plotter bin reviewed them, got sign offs and handed them to the contractors for the work to do that day.

Every one went to bed early. Watching the basketball game with Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs

Hi Angela... I try to stay out of those situations... Sorry... I think what you said in the first place is something I would have told her...
Hey everyone... Can you dig up lilies when they have flowers?...
I know that I get crazy over my house but at least I have an idea what I want and most of the time just need help making sure that what I want makes sense. But you have a beautiful kitchen, looks like new floor and you think it is ugly then paint it damn it. Then the response was like really..
pattyann, think so , just google it to see what it says
  • 13 years ago
That was a dining room yes?... I didn't see the kitchen... I think I missed something... Let me go look...

Hi all, very busy day today. Started 6/14.

Kimdee – This gets back to my pet peeve about “standard sizes” .. or lack thereof. I’m sure that mattress sizes are fairly standard, but not linens. And sometimes it’s easier for a manufacturer to make a single size they say fits queen & king, than bother making 2 different sizes. Apparently there’s no “size police” to tell duvet manufacturers that their “king” really isn’t!

Guess I was lucky that I was just a volunteer newsletter editor/publisher, I could quit when it stopped being fun! :)

Judy M – All of my quilt covers (aka “duvet”) I made myself from flat sheets. And with some fabrics, I’ve had the problem of the quilt sliding towards the bottom end, and I thought I should have put in a couple of Velcro strips at the top, to prevent that .. but never get around to it.

STK – I come from a culture of planning in detail, so it’s frustrating being in a leadership position in a volunteer group, where they’re not used to being organized .. and don’t like it either. I’ve already seen how some people let things go until the last possible date, rather than trying to get things moving ahead of time, so there’s no rush.
Angela, I don't think what you said isn't anything we have all thought at one time or another. People need to stop agonizing over miniscule details. Obviously it wasn't that bad if 4 people "liked" it!

pattyannb, I think if you want to move the lilies, go for it. The way I look at it, If you buy them in a pot, you can plant them. I would move them . You might lose the flower, but not the plant itself.

I am posting less & less on "Dilemmas", because so many post initiators aren't even at "square one", and I don't feel like being the bad guy telling them they've got to think some things out for themselves. And if I say "X" for sure someone will post the exact opposite or make a snide remark about "X" .. so frankly it's not worth it. Or I post a very basic comment to stat the discussion, then don't read the follow-ups that would upset me.
I note we have a new "expert" too who is very forthright and seems to like to control the dilemma.
Roo - Is that the person who kept telling everyone they were "wrong" about a week ago?
No I think a different one. I haven't been on a lot of dilemmas lately because of time, but this one I only noticed when Angela mentioned her.
Bobbi, I meant to comment earlier after your photos - this is bizarre, when I get some time I will have to post photos of my blue fence and my bird statue. Mine is a emu and not as big as yours. Trouble is the possums send him flying every night.
Roo-can you give me a hint as to who you are talking about..
There is peace in the world again. Not sure long it will last.
