Macy’s Brenalee Sofa: Does anyone own it? Thoughts?

Hello! I’m looking at Macy’s Brenalee Collection (see link below) and wondering if this deal on a feather/fiber blend, 8-way hand tied sofa is too good to be true. Has anyone purchased the sofa or chair? What are your thoughts on its quality? How is the LiveSmart fabric holding up? Is it super comfy?

Thanks! - Katie

Ditto - on sale now - any feedback?

I have been looking at another sofa almost exactly like this one. https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/birch-lane-heritage-clausen-sofa-bl8482.html?piid=18913080 on Wayfair, it's called the Clausen by Birch Lane and I think IT'S THE SAME SOFA! it's less that the one at Macy's...any thoughts anyone??? thx!!!

It looks similar but the Macy’s one has loose pillows in the back. I bought mine on sale for $979.

I purchased this sofa and I love it. The fabric is a super thick and sturdy white denim and you can easily wash and air dry without having to dry clean. It's deep and very well made. The seat cushions are just regular foam and that is the only thing I would change, no spring coils or anything like that. The foam is wrapped in a 2 inch thick layer of down so you can easily fluff. (Still supportive though) Same with back pillows. I hope this helps you guys.

Is the pearl color a true white? They have none in the the midatlantic stores to see in person. Just do not want a yellow tone sofa. Thanks

Has anyone purchased this sofa and washed it in the washing machine as opposed to dry cleaning it? Thanks!!

I am looking at possibly buying this couch, but I'm hesitant because there is no Macy's near me that has it for me to sit on in person! Can anyone confirm that the seat cushions have coil springs wrapped in foam (this is the description on the Macy's website). R. P., you mentioned above that the Brenalee seat cushions don't have any springs -- so maybe they have changed the cushion design since you bought yours? I'm looking for a seat cushion that has a little bit of firmness, not one that you completely sink into.

Also, any feedback on how the back cushions are holding up after use? Are the feathers poking out from the back cushions (that drives me crazy). Thanks!

Hi! the seat cushions DON'T have springs. I got mine in Feb. Not sure why that's in the description. None the less, very comfortable. The back cushions are holding up just fine. No sagging at all and that was my fear. Very well constructed and holding their shape. I am still impressed several months later. Rozlin.

R.P. Thank you for posting about washing this. Mine is dirty but I didn’t really want to dry clean if I didn’t have to. You are a lifesaver!

R.P., did you buy the Wayfair sofa or the Macy's sofa? I thought you were talking about the Macy's Brenalee, but now I'm thinking you got the Wayfair Clausen? Thanks!

Hi, no. I brought the Brenalee from Macy's.

I purchased this sofa without seeing it or sitting on it in person. Furniture is one of those items I NEVER EVER do that with. Since Macy’s has a try it for 2 weeks and return it I had nothing to loose. This sofa is AMAZING in COMFORT AND CARE! All guests comment on its comfort and beauty. the slipcover states it’s washable. Haven’t done that bu I have 2 digs and when the have gotten mud in my white sofa it cleaned off in a snap! Truly amazing. And when my husband stained it with substance unknown, that too came off with a damp paper towel. You won’t regret getting this sofa! Best sofa ever!

Yes! This is the best and most comfortable sofa I've ever purchased. I remember trying other sofas at West Elm and Crate & Barrel, this one was without a doubt the most comfortable. I know the cleaning directions say, Dry Clean Only. Has anyone tried to wash and air dry the slip covers?

I purchased 2 of the brenalee sofas. True white, excellent quality. I’ve washed the seat cushion covers in cold and tumble dry on delicate cane out beautiful. love them! Will prob go back for the chair but waiting for a sale because the savings is significant.

I have 2 Brenalee sofas90 inch I think- loves the first one so much that I ordered another. The white is very white As in the photos in Macy’s.com The sofa seating is very firm but very comfortable. It is a feather sofa and an amazing one! The fact that you can change the slip covers is a terrific plus. one of our sofas is 2 years old now and is super comfortable but not sink in. Retains its shape very well. If you can get it from Macy’s as they have the best prices especially July and August.

I appreciated everyone’s comments. Very helpful! I’m looking at purchasing and I cannot see it in person. Does everyone still like their sofa? Does it sit too deep or is it fine with extra pillows? Is it too squishy ( feathers) or just soft and comfortable? In other words, does it give enough support to sit and visit?

I had the sofa and chair and with dogs, they got filthy and never came clean. Even with washing as recommended above. The worst was along the bottom where the dogs would lay next to it.

We’ve had the sofa in gray for 2 years now—bought it sight unseen. pros: on sale (979), good value. The fabric has been easy to clean with 2 kiddos and one dog—we do have the gray though, not the white. The back cushions have held their shape well, and the couch is beautiful. Cons: the lack of springs in cushions results in a very firm couch. I personally do not find it comfortable or ‘cushy.’ It’s ok, but not a heavenly place I want to nap. Second, the throw pillows go FLAT with every use and have to be fluffed, which is not easy as they are very firm. The seat cushions flatten also, even with weekly rotation. It doesn’t change the comfort of the couch, just looks a bit sloppy. If you are looking for a large, FIRM couch, it’s a good one. I prefer something with a little more give, but will have to wait till my kids get a bit older to upgrade

You guys are the best! I'm looking at this couch online and so glad to find reviews here that weren't paid for.

I bought two of these in gray! They are by far the best sofas we have owned! Super comfortable and hold up to lots of heavy use including children that think they are a jungle gym and a trampoline lol we have owned ours for almost three years and they still look brand new. I wash the covers in the washing machine with cold water and they come out perfect!

I've had my Brenalee sofa since March 2018. It's been pretty good with the cover holding up very well after several washings (wash cold and hang dry). My husband is 6'2" and likes to sit on one spot so that side started to sag. My 20lbs dog acts like a cat and sits on top of the cushions. So those started to sag. I spent about $150 and bought foam sheets to add support to the seat cushions and add shredded memory foam to the back cushions. It's like a brand new couch...maybe even better.

I chose the fawn tan cover and now I'm thinking of a color change to pearl and just waiting the replacement slipcover to go (more) on sale. Any tips on getting a discount besides becoming a Macy's card holder?

I am interested in this as well... there is a good sale going on now, but I don't know when Macy's has their biggest sales of the year.

I have it in fawn and like it. My husband and I are tall (6-4 & 5-11) and the size is perfect. It's about a year and a half old and still looks good. We have three dogs and it cleans up so easily! So much so that I thought Id buy the white replacement covers but I can't find then anywhere. It says it does not ship to my zip code. Has anyone purchased replacement covers?

    Thank you!

Hello all! I am considering to order the swivel/glider chair in pearl. I saw in store and the fabric is white and looks/feels durable. The comfort was decent for the price. (sale going on now). Has anyone had the chair for awhile and how is it holding up? Actually would order 2 as one will be used alot & the other not too much.

Had it for three years. The foam isn't the best. It's hard and lumpy. Springs not very springy. The polyfill in the pillows clump and get hard. My cheap Sealy was more comfortable. It is big. Good for a family room with a lot of kids.

Hi all! i have a question about the couch height; can someone please confirm the height of the couch frame without the pillows? online it says the height is ~35.8” but the diagram seems like its including the height if the back cushions. i need to know how tall the back of the frame is to make sure this would fit through my apartment door lol thanks!

If anyone has the brenalee sofa SLIPCOVER ONLY in tan, I'd love to buy it from you. Macy's will only drop-ship a replacement cover directly from the manufacturer but it would cost about 1k just in shipping fees- no joke! Meaning, I can't buy a separate slipcover, which makes owning a slipcovered sofa stupid if one cant replace the slipcover.

I have two of them. Very comfortable, but cannot get clean - the included stain remover is useless. (I have dogs.) Also, I purchased warranty with Macy's and they are refusing to honor it. I looked into replacing the slipcovers on my own, but the cost of SHIPPING for 2 replacement slipcovers was more than the actual products - OVER $1,000 FOR SHIPPING.

I bought my sofas 4 months ago and I loved them until I started to notice a chemical smell coming out from them. I am very disappointed because I'm getting headaches and can't stand the odor.

I purchased my sofas about six months ago, but there is a weird smell on the fabric, it's a bit too much for me, after looking into the fabric more I noticed the smell was due to the chemicals it is treated with to be stain and wrinkle resistant, these chemicals are not good which is why there is a prop 65 warning attached to this sofa. I know some may not care and those chemicals seem to be everywhere these days but for something I am going to be using on a daily basis and at this point I don't know what to do.

Horrible! Don't waste your time and money. We had to get them replaced after 6 months because the cushions were getting flat. We are only two people and not heavy people so there's no reason for these sofas to get so flat and the fabric to shift. We got the new ones and after two days we could see that they will be the same as the previous ones.

No! They are horrible. They sink and get flat after a couple of months

I haven't personally tried the Brenalee sofa, but from what I hear, it's pretty comfy and the LiveSmart fabric should be great for a busy house since it's easy to clean.
