i will ignore the carpet, it is just one more floor you can not change. Your hubby is right about not painting the fireplace, you can not really use afterwards. I am going to ignore the rest of what you said, you did not really say that part well. I am going to work on a rug that goes with a turquoise trunk and dark gray sectional. along with other things you need or it looks like you do. once we have the room done then you can work on a paint that goes with it all.

You could add a solid gray -- any shade -- runner behind the sofa.

Is the carpet tan/gold? Either a pale tan -- light brown without the yellow or pink hue -- or a pale-to-medium gray would do for the walls.

Choose curtains with at least both gray (any shade) and the carpet color in them -- adding a tiny bit of the footlocker color would be a real find.

For throw pillows, focus on repeating the foot locker color with either gray or the carpet color as well.

You could add some wood trim around the windows, visually lowering them a bit, and then add modern shelving to the wall above the sofa between the windows about the height as the bottom of the windows in the same color/finish.

Cold air can seep through windows.... I like much the simple blocks of art color, which added to the windows in a way that I didn't miss fabric.... do you need fabric there? if you do, it's ok!
