If your cabinets have been properly installed there is no need for any other support. If your island countertop is stone and will extend for seating, there should be extra support. That does not need to be corbels. Mine has metal supports that cannot be seen unless I look under the island countertop.

Who is installing the cabinets and counters?

Custom. The corbels are for decor not support. I have legs on island. The design adds decorative corbels to ancher floating cabinets. Love the cabinets not so sure it’s neccessary to use corbels. Thanks

    on adding corbels.

    for island.

Unlikely ... with the possible exception of any significant overhang of the countertop on the island for use as a bar.

In addition to being used for decoration, another use for the corbel is to provide a place from which to add a hanging hook, such as for a coffee mug or potholder -- would likely hold your cup hook more securely than a thin plywood panel and/or enable you to use a longer screw without the tip ending up inside the cabinet.

Your design does not need corbels and in fact would drive your style to a traditional look. I would not recommend. If you have counter surface on island overhanging more than 12”, you needed to design metal supports into design. You can retrofit but kitchen designer should have pointed that out. Keep it simple. It is relatively small space. Less is more.

If this photo is your kitchen, you don’t appear to have nearly enough space between back cupboards and island. Maybe island isn’t installed yet? You need at least 42” around island.

I’m good on island no need for added support. It’s purely cosmetic. It’s a Shiplap great room cabin with beams. Is it acceptable to hang “float cabinets “ without corbels? The kitchen is small opens into great room. I want them to look functional.
    Thanks

You need a t least 42-48” between the counters of the perimeter and the island and IMO you do not have that. Why you have legs on the island is a mystery and why on earth you would want corbels anywhere in this design is weird. RThis is a nice simple kitchen design leave it that way. Cabinets need no other support othe than the attachment to the wall through studs . Are you doing this yourself because if you are you better make sure you actually installed those cabinets properly.

To question your question 61612 do you really need the corbels it’s an embellishment for decorative purposes. If you feel your kitchen looks to plain then add it.

And where on earth would you place corbels in that 18” spce between cabinet bottom and counter IMO would look really silly.

Design is posted above. Purpose was to give floating cabinets a feel

of attachment and support. I was not sure if it’s acceptable hanging a single cabinet in a kitchen. It does tend to look traditional using a corbel . It’s a cabin in a mt area. I will wait till it’s all installed. Thank you
