entryway opens to a wall

Not sure what to do to this wall. As soon as you enter thats what you see and then it opens to our living room.

what do you think if I do something like this and rug on the floor. Sheer curtains on that window. would it be too crowded?

That might be a bit crowded. I would replace the window treatments, find a large piece of art you like and most definitely replace the boob light

Is this the door that gets the most use? Groceries, dogs, backpacks, etc.? Or do all of those things come in another door and this one is used sparely for company? I so because I like the idea of the shelf that rach posted, but I wouldn’t do it if it were the main door, because it would be too easy to knock things over. Maybe a nice large vertically oriented art piece?

That would be nice if there is absolutely no space for an entry table! That way you still have something you can change up depending on the season, I have never seen anything like that but that is what you need in that space, that's just about all that would work there I think.

The door on the left (entry? closet?) will prohibit use of a table in that hall. Instead, focus on making that window more attractive -- you might consider adding white wood louvered shutters to it. You could also add some wainscoting beneath the window so the wall would not be as stark.

If that door is the entry door, you might consider adding a mural to the blank wall across from it.

or adding wainscoting to that wall ... again, something so the wall will not be so stark.

Also not a fan of the "boob" light but you do need a flush mounted ceiling light here -- too small a space for anything that hangs low.

I think a tapestry could work well there. No worries about bumping into it, doesn't take up any space. Not sure what your style is:

ikea makes this shoe cabinet that would give the look of an entry table but is only 9 inches deep

"boob" light! I'm dying! I will never look at my light fixtures the same again! Now I know why I don't like them! They just don't belong on the ceiling!

I would turn that window into a show stopper. Perhaps stained glass. Anything you hang directly across from the door will be lost as anyone standing in front of it will be to close to it to be appreciated. Perhaps wallpaper is the answer here? Where does that wall end?

Can we have a picture of the whole area. Need to see more. That area is so small, I don't think there would be much room for anything by the time you stand there with the door open. Let's see the wall further down.

I would like to see a fabulous window treatment on the window and then wallpaper the wall opposite the door in something eye catching. And yes, a nice semi-flush light fixture would be much better.

Thank you everyone. Here are some more pictures. It opens right into the living room so not sure how wallpaper would fit into it.

Well, you can start and stop wallpaper wherever you like...most successful if you have an exact color match between the wall and the paper

Or you can do a wallpaper panel and use molding to highlight it. It will still add color and interest without taking up any floor space.

From the pic with the door open, it looks like you might have room for a demilune table... and you have an outlet there so you could even put a small lamp on it.

I still like your idea with the short shelf so maybe you can set your keys down in a little box a small area you can change up slightly depending on season then add the hanging tapestry that they posted would be nice because it won't fall and it's a nice change from regular framed art, more soft and open, and not closed in like a frame the exact feeling you want to avoid walking in to that little space.

Paint the inside door the same color as the outside. Cover the wall with different sized mirrors (no console).

As suggested do something great to the window.

I like JudyG's idea too, the mirrors would open it up actually!!

Even a simple Roman shade hung higher than the frame will make the window moore important. I like this treatment and the ribbon can be the color of your door. If you look carefully, you can see, on the single window, how much higher the shade was hung over the trim.

Like the pendant (chain shortened), too….round like the mirrors

No room for anything until the wall reaches beyond those entering [with whatever they might carry with them].... not a welcoming step inside, by bumping...

... my eyes scan instead of 'stop halt' at what is directly in front of me -- whatever is just down a bit will attract them... imo.

The larger area of wall -- seen from LR? if so, concentrate on that.

rach S, cancel my suggestion to paint the interior door a color. The door and frame are so much lower than the window that I would consider painting the door and the frame the same color as the walls. Because when the door is closed it is you looking down the hall. The window treatment takes precedence for you and the long wall takes precedence for whomever is entering.

    Does that make sense?

    If you own this home...

Have you considered putting the window where the door is now located and the door where the window is now located? Even if you need to increase the size of the porch or stoop or otherwise add a cover over the door, this would be a worthwhile investment.

I second the suggestion of Ikea. Check out the Tron and Stall shoe cabinets. Google that, see a bunch of hacks for customizing. You could do more than one across the wall.

    Some examples

--Nice plantation shutters or a beautiful Roman shade for the window. If you can leave a shade up 24/7, do so. That alone will open up the space.

--Shallow shelf with either art or round mirror over it as previously suggested.

--Small square or rug (Oriental style) or floor cloth if rug pile interferes with door. A checkerboard floor cloth would give a tile effect suggesting an entryway feeling. Check out Etsy. Many people do floor cloths. You could commission colors that reflect your front door or living room colors.

--Great flush mount light fixture. Just make sure the door will clear.

I would not do anything to draw attention to the window, just upgrade the blinds. And then I would put a huge piece of art work on the wall to the right to make your eye look that way instead, I would hang a chandelier somewhere in that entryway. You don't have room where I can see for a table, so just hang art on the wall and leave the space open. And that's all I can see to make any comments on.

I would add one of those tall entryway benches that have hangers for coats and shelving at the top. The first thing I would do is add a beautiful chandelier. You could also do a gallery wall.

I just saw your next round of photos showing the living room wall and have some second thoughts:

--A long console table, lamp, art, and a small chair against the living room wall would give an entryway feeling and enhance the living room.

--Before I saw your additonal photos, I'd suggested a small rug (or floor cloth) just in the entryway. Now that I see that whole living room wall, a long oriental runner from the iny entry across the living room wall would create a pathway to the living room.

I would start with a beautiful rug ( long) and pretty curtains. Then upgrade the light. You will then be better able to tell what is needed.
