carpet for playroom

My husband and I are in the process of "finishing out" our attic space above the garage. We have added 940 sq feet to our upstairs. Does anyone have a recommendation for flooring? We have 3 children under the age of 10. My husband wants it to be soft on his feet. I would like something is stain resistant. Thank you for any consideration.

If I could do our playroom over I'd do wood or laminate wood with a rug instead of carpet. My son rarely plays in the playroom because he likes to race his vehicles on the hard floor. They also do floor puzzles on hard floor. They end up doing these thinks in the kitchen! Theres also the spill factor. Just my 2 cents.
