Can you use wood instead?

Long story on why I had to do it this way but my tile person says there won’t be any damage to wood. The current tile is marble and it’s cracked in many spots. Also, it looks very dated and we are hoping to replace it and get a more contemporary look. I’m looking for the right color in porcelain but having very hard time finding a good complement. Do I go darker than wood? Do I go lighter? Here’s a few photos some samples.

Your wood floors are gorgeous!

The samples you show don't highlight/compliment your hardwood, which I think, should be the star.

What region are you in? Warm or cold climate?

Is it a vintage/historic home, or more recent (after 1960s)?

Thank you!! I live in northeast. Our home was built post 1960’s. Would love to get your suggestions!

I think porcelain slate with some very subtle warm accents would be very dramatic next your floors.

Your tile guy wasn't quite truthful with you! Your wood floors won't be ruined by changing out the tile, but they certainly won't look as perfect as they do now, after the work is done.

Thoughts on any of these?

I like the original light color that complements the wall color and gives the wood the appearance of carpet on tile. You lose the inlay look with the dark tile. Herringbone is traditional, as is the red cherry color and everything else in the entryway, so I wouldn't try to go contemporary with a concrete look.

I know this isn't helpful for tile choices, but I agree with cleo that wood could look the wonderful, if it can be done.

Have you priced having wood installed? In my experience during my renovation, tile was more expensive than wood floors -- but, maybe it was my expensive taste in tile.
