It would help to post a picture. Not crazy about the lamp idea. Is the problem accessing power from the ceiling? The length of the cord drop too long??

While I think the pop up outlet could be a good fix for some problems, I like good overhead lights over my island. Not sure what your situation is but lighting solutions are available for every conceivable build. Unless you just do not want an over head light then okay.

There's a reason you never see lamps in kitchens. There are definitely ways to make lights work with cathedral ceilings.
