What is your goal? Light control (does window face south or west?) privacy? Purely for design purposes? That will inform your decision.

As to color, I would not use white or gray - a more saturated color would be nice here.

Change out the peach chandelier. It really doesn't work in your elegant room.

Part of the coldness in this room is because of the absence of a rug. I would concentrate on that first before making a decision about drapes. You can take your inspiration for the rug colors from the painting, and I think heavy cream colored drapes are something you can get away instead of white if both the paintings and the rug contain those colors. Different light shades will work together, it doesn't all have to match. Right now your room is beautiful but lifeless because of the strict color scheme and no indication of your personality and passion. I wouldn't just choose what is suggested but find what you love in terms of art (although that painting looks great). The table treatment again is very strict and linear, and a dining room should feel warm, welcome and alive, no matter what kind of style you prefer.

If you want more drama then go with black and white

A gorgeous navy and white contemporary print with about an 18" repeat would look fabulous. Something like an ikat.

If the idea is to warm up this room, I do think more color is needed than in the previous pictures. However, it's abundantly clear that an area rug of any type makes a huge differences in making this room inviting.

I love the room and I think you’re allllmost there. I am someone who doesn’t like things to look overly decorated or cluttered, which from the picture I think you may be similar. I love sheer curtains with slight patterns... I’ll see if I can attach a pic of some I have in my house. Also, I think an area rug would also warm up your room regardless of if you choose neutrals or colors. A nice mirror or a compilation of 3 large framed photos above your buffet would look nice too. If you’re sticking with neutrals, it would look nice if you found some matted frames and put b&w pics from your wedding or of your kids or family.
