Yes, those are bearded iris and the rhizomes should be exposed to the light! Whether or not they may need dividing would be determined by how well they bloom - crowded iris tend not to bloom well. They look a little congested but not overly so. If you do decide they need division, it can be done after the bloom period or in late summer/early fall

Nice iris. Iris tend to rot, that is why you plant them so the top is exposed. No mulch either. Yours really don't look bad at all, I have some that groe on top of other roots, can be a real mess.
