I like the landscaping Doug shows above. I also like the awning change to a shed roof over the garage. It is sharp. What doesn't work for me is the shutters on the far right window. That particular window shouldn't get shutters at all. The two windows above the garage are sized right so get the right size shutters and add hardware. Right size = each shutter is to be half the size of the window so they will look functional even if they aren't functional. Like this, for example, below:

Thank you Doug and Denita for your ideas. Doug, I love your landscaping ideas and the garage awning change. I had not thought of making it dark like that, but it looks really nice.

Denita, I shuddered when I saw your comment about my shutters. I always thought mine were sized right. I walk around my neighborhood cringing at ill sized shutters. Do you think mine are too long? wide? And I agree about the ones on the large window. I would love to take them off, but it will leave holes in the siding which I think will be uglier than the shutters...Those might have to stay until new siding.

FYI you don't have a raised ranch. You have a ranch. Raised ranch (aka split entry) have the the steps that go up or down as soon as you enter the front door. I love Doug's ideas. Of course he always does lovely landscaping. Some landscape lighting in the gardens would be nice. Maybe an up light on the Magnolia.

gtyk, your shutters on the left look like they could almost work. The size differential is negligible, at least it appears that way on my monitor. With hardware, the ones on the left would work. But the shutters on the right are too small and the window is not designed for shutters. I understand about the siding. Wouldn't there be a patch available that can make those holes disappear?

I would add a dormer over the porch and paint the house a taupe with black shutters and garage door the front door I would paint a Kelly green.
