Unfortunately for the citrus industry, when Frank Meyer, a plant explorer for the USDA, brought his tree back into the USA from Beijing, China in 1908 (what came to be known as the Meyer Lemon) that tree carried much trouble with it into this country. Frank's tree was infected with the citrus tatter leaf virus and worse, also was a symptomless carrier of the deadly Tristeza virus that wiped out millions of citrus trees in this country, especially trees growing on the sour orange rootstock..
