I can't find that model number. I did find a KRFF302ESS (22 cuft FD) which has no mention of setting it on it's back. KRFC302EBS (black instead of stainless) is the same.

I've never heard of laying a fridge down to unpack it. It is always done upright. It's always carried upright, too.

Some refrigerators are shipped attached to a wooden or plastic base pallet inside the box but setting the unit 90° over on its back isn't necessary to remove the pallet (which may be attached via screws to the bottom of the refrigerator) ... it can usually be leaned to one side and then the other to reach the screws.

Weedmaster - I think they're all the same basic model. The cardboard packing covering the refrigerator has instructions to lay the appliance on it's back. Seems strange to me, also.

dadoes - The refrigerator is sitting on a pallet - looks pretty intimidating to move! Thanks for the suggestion to just lean it a bit to remove the screws.

Do I need to let the coolant settle if it is tipped? Or is that just for older style refrigerators?

The rule of thumb is for an equal amount of time that it was tipped over to a 24 hour maximum. The time it takes to yank the pallet is probably short compared to the time it is going to take to hook up the icemaker line and remove all the tape and interior packing material prior to powering it up.
