Will this 6 inch rod substitute for current 12 inch rod?

I installed a Progress lighting pendant light above a kitchen sink and handing from below the cabinet bulkhead. The light and glass shade are two low but the shortest down rod provided with light was 12 inches. Can I substitute this 6 inch rod? The current 12 inch rod has threaded adapter ends.
