Personally, I'm not a fan of wall sconces. Recessed lighting is a good way to add lights without making the drop ceiling seem lower than it already is. Another way you can brighten the room is by painting the ceiling. We had ugly beige tiles with brown supports in our kitchen and half bath, which drew your eyes to the ceiling, made it seem lower, and really emphasized the fact that we had a drop ceiling and not a normal one. So we had them painted, which helped everything lighten up and disappear more. The kitchen has a very light blue ceiling with light grey walls and the bathroom has a white ceiling with light aqua walls. It helps the entire room brighten and makes you forget that it's even a drop ceiling.
