One quick thought is to center the books w/ dog book ends in the top center space and move the books that are next to it to the bottom right hand shelf in place of the box. Slide the books to the right of the shelf topped with one of your antique clocks, and place the other clocks on the same shelf to the left of the books. I agree that you want to use an accent color to the shelves that will brighten the space.

You might want to replace the frames with ivory matted frames so it pops.

I am sorry, I can't Photoshop, but I'll try to make some suggestions.

Unfortunately when I try to enlarge your photo enough so that I can really see your things, it gets grainy, so I am not sure what is there.

It looks like you have some silver trophy cups, one huge one, and a few very small ones. Those are just great! However, the smaller ones are all about the same size. So here is what I suggest- can you purchase some clear acrylic display stands of differing heights so they can all be seen distinctly, and you end up with trophies of varying heights? Those display stands are rather inexpensive. You can try putting them all in one cubby and step back and see how that looks. If it looks too crowded, have the largest one by itself, and have the smaller ones on their display stands of differing heights in another cubby.

The three clocks are also too close in height. I would find stands for some of them to vary their heights. I can't see them well enough, but does one of them have a loop at the top? There are display stands that have a hook at the top from which an object can be suspended, i.e. a pocket watch, or something like that. Maybe one one of your clocks could be suspended in that fashion and so elevated that way. They can still sit on the vintage case.

The display stand principal applies as well for your pewter objects on the left side.

I am not sure the photos are shown to their advantage here. Family photos are best blown up to a significant size where everyone in the photo can be easily seen and hung in a hallway or on a stairway wall. (I call it affectionately the rogue's gallery.)

Is there any significance to those specific books in the stack on the left? Do they need to be there? When was the last time you looked at them? The books in the right stack seem to be coffee table books, that is. books that one leafs through when one sits on the sofa and wants to look at pretty pictures. To have coffee table books tucked away at the top of a media unit almost out of reach really defies their purpose.

You could put a live green plant in one of the cubbies. Or, if you are worried about water leaking, a large terrarium would look great.

In the bottom, put away the DVD's in one of the closed cabinets.

Can you neaten up the audio visual equipment at the bottom and tuck away or tape to conceal the wires so they are less visible?

If you buy a sound bar (they are rather inexpensive now and very good) you won't need those obtrusive black speakers on the top of the media unit, and the sound bar works much better, too.

What is in those bell jars? (The lowest cubby on the left, sorry, I said I couldn't see what is in there very well.)

Now that you've consolidated things, there should be significant empty space. Are there other things that you'd like to display?

Are there things that your children have made that you like and are proud of? Something you've inherited? Souvenirs you have brought back from your travels? Something you've collected or would like to collect that has an interesting shape and color, such as a large interesting seashell (you can put it on a stand so it stands up straight), or a framed colorful butterfly.

Do you have a faux or real plant that you could put on one shelf? Everything looks better with a little green! I also like vases that are either white or have white in them bc they look so sharp against wood. I would place your pewter clocks on the box in the bottom, left-hand corner, opposite the pewter trophy/bowl. Maybe look around your house first for a few things and we can help you figure out if they look good without you spending money yet. Also, the dark color in the your rug—is it black or dark blue?

Can you move the square red picture frame with the other two smaller pictures to create a picture grouping of 3?
