Removing old fixture!

I am desperate to know how to get this thing off my ceiling. I’ve replaced fixtures before but they’ve always been straightforward.

Twist the base to the left.

I tried and then had my husband try it... is it possible they used an adhesive?

Could there be some screws hiding in those slots or under that reflector materiel?

So... we hit it with a hammer. Voila!

But it looks like I’ll have to replace the box and cover the mess with a ceiling medallion or something. What a pain.

That box looks like it might have been a 1950s style rectangular recessed light originally.

You’re probably right. The house was built in the 40s and updated over the decades. Always a fun surprise when I tackle a small project!
