reclaimed wide plank lumber for new build.

We are starting the process of building a new house. We would like to use reclaimed wide plank flooring. We saw some nice hickory today. We live in the Hudson Valley, NY and they quoted $25-30 per sq ft installed. Is this high or no?

Does that come with the museum level humidity control that it will require to be stable?

No, that is not high for real, not faux, reclaimed wood.

Is it high? For me, yes. For reclaimed lumber in the Hudson Valley? Nope.

You should definitely check out The Hudson Company in Pine Plains. They are amazing. Your search should end there. I just got my floor from them. They have lots of reclaimed flooring

The price (with installation) is completely appropriate for what you are purchasing. Reclaimed wood is 30% - 100% more expensive than new lumber. The wider the product, the more DESIRABLE it is. The more desirable it is, the more DEMAND for the product. The more demand, the more VALUABLE it becomes to purchase. And therein lies the basis for "supply and demand".

The install is only a small part ($5 - $7/sf is about right) of this project. The wood itself is driving most of this cost. That means your planks are $18 - $23/sf. Which is bang on for reclaimed wide plank (remilled) flooring.

Lovely. Stunning. With a price tag to match.
