What is the style of the rest of your house & the style you are striving for - please post more pics!

What about a pretty metallic wallpaper on the back of them? Then display a vase, plate, figure- find some collectibles that go together and highlight them in the niches.

Get your electrician to install an LED spotlight in each arch. You can use remote controlled changing color bulbs. They do not cost that much. Even if you don't place anything inside the arches, once you light them and play with the light colors, it would get you that modern look.
