I tried to grow it a couple times but it failed.

And yet coreopsis is the state flower. I think it's a question of the variety.

I've found with coreopsis, they don't do very well when they're planted from pots. They do much better when planted straight into the ground from seed, but that was with more native varieties.

Wildflowers.org says that species grows in FL, so I'd give it a shot. Everything I see says zone 9, and Jax is northern zone 9, so I don't see why it wouldn't grow there.

I should have mentioned that the native nursery in my link is in Lake Worth, so at least some of them can grow in zone 10. Don't know about Moonbeam, though.

I am currently growing Coreopsis 'Sunburst' from seed (it was labeled as a C. lancelota seed strain but it appears closer to grandiflora to me) and it's been fine so far, very resilient and fast-growing for a perennial.

This species definitely doesn't grow in FL as BONAP is very reliable. There are many Coreopis species http://bonap.net/Napa/TaxonMaps/Genus/County/Coreopsis and not all of them occur here. It's kind of confusing since they are all called Coreopsis but Coreopsis is just the genus name, bunch of totally different species.

I was hoping if it grows in GA it could handle Northern FL but if it wasnt successful for you Bea than perhaps not. Thanks for the heads up.

Moonbeam is a clone form of C. verticillata and not a seed strain unfortunately so that wouldn't work, I'm also a bit too lazy for annuals unless they're zinnias and signet marigolds but thanks for the idea c:

I was posting that link because the wildflowers thing said it grows here when it doesn't, at least not outside of cultivation, a bunch of other coreopsis species do (like our state flower) but not this one unfortunately... if that makes sense

I've grown it but not in FL. If you are just looking for a non stop yellow bloomer, Melampodium might work for you. I've grown it successfully.
