We are updating our kitchen, and my favorite countertop looks are soapstone or a white/grey granite. We have white cabinets and a very rustic slate floor with grey, browns, and blues. I'm worried about the softness of soapstone, but don't know of a similar look that won't leave smudges or ring marks like I've read with darker, honed granites. My favorite white granite that I've seen is River White, but was reading that it can discolor after a few years. Does anyone recommend quartz, or a man-made material that looks beautiful and legit? We currently have corian counters, so was hoping for a natural stone, but low maintenance may be better for us since we are a young, growing family.
