You unearthed the ranculus bulb and it was healthy or was it the freesia?

If it was ranculus and the bulbs look fine, I would keep the soil moist, but not wet (top can dry a bit, feel down with your finger and see how wet the soil is under the top layer) and then put in a slightly warmer or sunnier place. Until roots start growing the only loss of water will be from evaporation so you will need to check the soil before watering. I believe ranculus like heat and might wait for warmer conditions to emerge.

You would know the difference between Ranunculus tubers and freesia corms. They not at all similar in appearance. If the tubers are plump and healthy leave them alone. Water only enough to stop the mix drying out.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I unearthed a ranunculus corm.

3 out of 15 have sprouted of the ranunculus have sprouted so far.

The freesias did much better - 75% have come up.

Anyway, I got a new batch of ranunculus corms just in case these ones don’t come up. I really want to grow some successfully for Spring. I’m in Sydney so we’re in the middle of autumn.

Will heat also delay sprouting? We’re mid autumn but still getting 33 C (90 F) weather.
