Look for some vinyl wall art. It is inexpensive and can be removed in the future, but could fill up the space and you could pick a meaningful saying. Check out uppercaseliving.com

We live in a house with the same walls and have lived here for 27 years. You have plenty of options. While a large piece of art, rectangular,would be lovely we got wonderful comments from visitors when we put a set of 3 large circular artworks on the wall, as centered as possible to fit the room and the wall.

Something about the wall angles just helped frames the circular shapes and also played off of them. We went with abstract pieces but options are many. Have you considered arranging a set of large, oversize picture frames in a large rectangular shape for displaying family photos?

Decorating on a budget is hard, but not impossible. You just have to be more resourceful. Hit Goodwill...find a bunch of frames with good shape and details and paint them all the same color. Then get a neutral fabric and mount it on cardboard- place family photos in them. I found an amazing dresser at Goodwill for $90- it was a Mid Century Modern worth 5 times that. Also, if you have a Habitat for Humanity ReStore- they sometimes have great finds.
