Lubber nymphs!! I can't have amaryllis in my garden because they eat them right down into the bulb. I send them to 'cricket heaven' with a bucket of soapy water and good flat soled shoes.

I have a whole village of them on the bloom stalk of a crinum lily. But I let them live

and figure there must be some hungry bird that will eat them. I try to keep my farm

and garden according to the National Wildlife Backyard habitat and allow all

natural species to live and feed others.

As i have said before i think they are pretty and really have never had more than a few in the yard at any one time. They are like flowers that move.

They show up and mutilate any Amaryllis that I get. Our Key West hens will eat the baby lubbers. They will mutilate the adults if they can catch them but won't eat them.

I'm pretty sure lubbers came straight from hell, along with fire ants, and they go back there when they die.
