Broken main stem below ground level

So, I’m usually guilty of breaking plumeria by being careless with the garden hose. Hands down, this is the most common way I break my plumeria. I’ll knock over potted plumeria or yank one branch off here or there from flopping the hose around or pulling it.

Well, as I was trying to mind a garden hose, given my track record, I managed to completely snap a plumeria off at its base by walking backwards and stepping on it. I’m rooting the broken piece but the rooted in-ground main stem I’ve just left to grow another plant.

My question is should I clean away the dirt and form more of a volcano around it so water doesn’t settle and cause rot? Or can I just leave it as is? It’s 1/2“ below soil line. About 2” diameter main stem.

what do you think?

thanks!
