You will need to completely enclose your beds, including the top. Constructing a "shed" of wood poles and wire, containing your beds, will solve the issue. Another long, narrow bed, dedicated to corn, (because of the crop's height) within it's own enclosure would make things simpler to build. Ugly, yes...but effective.

I feel for you. I gave up on tomatoes when they ate the bottoms of every one that was the slightest bit pink. From the top, they looked fine.

Stick to root vegetables and leafy greens. Everything else needs a wire cage.

Back again. Here in northern Arkansas we have deer / tree squirrels / ground squirrels / armadillos / skunks / foxes / raccoons and the very occasional bear. Hence, I know when to cede the battle, although some of my neighbors are still waging the war...unsuccessfully. Good luck. It gives me pause to consider how farmers are able to bring in a crop...they must be magicians!

Cats and/or dogs. Don't worry they won't get the squirrels (not many anyway) but what they will do is give the squirrels a healthy sense of "get the heck outta here" so they don't feel comfortable nonchalantly looking for the perfect strawberry.

You could also try planting the foods they don't like around the perimeters of the beds so maybe they are less tempted to go for the good stuff.

You can also take on my dad's philosophy: feed the little critters because some day they might be feeding us...

I am going to position a couple of these to keep guard. Squirrels will learn a behavior and after realizing the water is always they will eventually stop trying.
