Exterior makeover help needed

We could use some help with some ideas on how to improve the exterior of our 70s colonial.

What does your budget look like? Are you just mainly looking at paint or could you add a dormer on your second story?

We are pretty flexible assuming it’s going to add value/appeal to the home when we get around to selling it. We already changed the color to grey. Would a dormer work across the whole garage? (Eg where it would like like an extension of the second story). We were thinking building above the roof would give us a 4th bedroom. We seen some pictures of a new entryway that might be nice but not sure it would work with our house (see second attachment)

    Cute house!

I would paint the front door and your shutters the same color...perhaps a black or very dark blue.

I would then invest in adding some variety to the landscape.

I would think about a garage door with windows across the top. Also, paint your downspouts to blend with the siding/brick.

I see now you have blue/gray siding. Unfortunately, it doesn't coordinate with your green/gray roof. If the roof is due for replacement, I would choose a charcoal/black roof...otherwise, I would repaint the siding a gray green color to coordinate with the roof.

Paint the front door black like your shutters.

I would not add any other dormers. Keep the house simple, as you have it.

Was thinking the same thing regarding the roof and siding colors. The roof appears more warm-ish on my screen in your most recent photo with the gray siding.

Thanks for the comments. We need to replace the shingles soon so eventually they will be a darker charcoal and match the grey color. Unfortunately for now we have to live with the mismatch in color.

We are also considering painting the lower brick the same color as the top so it’s all the same gray.

For the big bay window we were thinking of adding white trim all around it to make it pop out more.

For landscaping, we were thinking of some boxwoods against the house, some knockouts roses in front and then a Japanese maple in the right facing corner.

I would do charcoal gray siding, dark gray brick, black pane windows (eliminate white) and a high gloss black door.
