APARTMENT KITCHEN HELP

This is my new apartment kitchen.

I love the open space. I hate the lighting.

I love the windows. I hate the blinds.

I love all the wood elements. I hate the cabinets.

I think I can talk my landlord into letting me paint them but they are laminate so this may be difficult.

I can live with the ceiling fan but not the fixture by the door.

The chairs & the hutch stay (I love them way too much)

And i would like a green element but Im sure what kind of green or how to incorporate it without it overpowering the room.

I also would not mind putting a little money into this project (I plan on staying here for a few years) but nothing too expensive as I would have to leave it when I move.

What would you do with this space?

I would remove the blinds and put up curtains, buy a shade to cover the bulbs in the light fixture by the door, and if painting the cabinets is not allowed, I would cover them with contact paper.

IDK about curtains tho, how would i hang them? The window frame is a wierd craftsman frame right up to the ceiling. You see it? Im also afraid of it being too “grandma”

How about a woven (rattan or somesuch) Roman shade for window? That would jazz it up and not be “granny”

I would pretend the molding isn't there and put a curtain rod right on top of it. They would only look grandma if you select a grandma type fabric.

I had to look up “rattan” lol

SOMANY CHOICES! Should i match the wood? Or go lighter? White/linen maybe?

Do i go to the floor with the length? across both windows? Or 2 rods over each window?

I would use one rod and go to the floor with the length. I like the idea of the Roman shade mentioned above but because the windows are side by side and different widths I think it might look strange.

What do you guys think of this ceiling light. To replace the one by the door. The glass is kinda similar to the glass on the fan.

Or is it to small/simple/matchy matchy?
