Slapped on housepaint is for hacks and chumps who think they are “saving money” by not using the correct coatings processes. What they are really buying is a terrible paint job that won’t last.

There’s a reason that unpainted cabinets are about half the cost of factory painted cabinets. It’s becausd to do it correcyly with the correct products is an exacting specialized skill.

Factory finishes last longer & usually comes with a warranty & touch up kit.

Unfinished stain maybe.

Unfinished then paint, not for new cabinets.

If you like the look of cheap furniture go head and get the Factory finished ones. as for warranty damaged always due to shipping or bad install. Touch up kits are impossible to use due to drying time. Paint them like the Christopher Peacocks cabinets using Fine Paints of Europe Paint

May I ask what you ended up doing? I also have kids, a great dane and a mastiff and am contemplating the best solution for redoing my kitchen.

We choose Prefinished Cabinets and completed our project almost 2 years ago.

The only complaints is the Trim quarter rounds under our island counter. Our mastiff likes to sit at our feet and scratches the trim when she gets up. Paint would have the same problem, I dont know about stain. The touch up kit is not very effective. We will likely replace the whole trim piece when the dogs have passed away. We love our cabinets and are happy with our selection.

Thanks so much for replying! It looks amazing! Im not sure our dogs will be around too much longer but we will always have a big dog, love them. I contemplated doing unfinished and then painting as well but I think ultimately we will go with prefinished also.
