Looks like a nice dark brown to me. The contrast of the white brick and dark wood is nice. What other colors are you using in the rest of the room?

How do I go about finding the right type of paint? I really appreciate your advice! it's so stressful lol!!
Wall choices so far with brught white trim.

I think you want the mantel to pop, not necessarily paint it black.

With those colors as your wall choices, I would go with white on the mantel to make it pop.

I actually did think of painting the mantle white! The fireplace is just primed right now and I am not liking the refurbished look to much, I might just paint it all white. Thanks so much!

I guess if the wall is going to be a darker color maybe the mantle should remain white????

Wow!! Irene, you gave me such great ideas! I never even considered gray, thank you so much for taking the time to show me pictures and your ideas.

You are welcome, hope it helped with your decision. Would love to see after pics

Absolutely!

I would be tempted to add a small bit of crown moulding under you mantle to make it a bit more substantial if you are going with idea. Just a thought and to confuse you more lol

I have a question, it might be hard to see in the picture but there is a wall to the left of the fireplace and it's obviously off-centered, would it look stupid if I popped the existing mantle off and attached one like in the picture even though it's not a traditional square fireplace? kind of hard to explain lol. I attended some pictures.

I know exactly what you are explaining Irene, that's my dilemma, I hate how thin the existing mantle is!

Finished thus far. I used Sherwin Williams paint color Mink. kept the mantle white (for now) but might pop it off and replace with a large natural wood mantle.

Looks fab!

Thank you! my first diy!

Before & After
Now comes the floors!

Looks great. I think a more substantial wood toned mantle would look good.
