Designer Building Question

If I am paying my designer on a percentage of actual costs for materials, should I have the right to view the underlying invoices - e.g. if I am buying flooring, should I have the right to see the actual invoice from the flooring store as opposed to an invoice from the designer stating the cost was X - the markup is Y and therefore total owed is Z.

If it were me, I would want to see the invoices too. Stand your ground.

Definitely you are entitled to the backup paper work if your contract is cost plus.

Thanks. It seemed logical that one would be provided with the invoices but I wanted to confirm before addressing the issue with my designer so I would actually "know" what I was talking about and not be told that it wasn't "standard practice" :-)

If your designer pulls the "not standard practice" line on you....then I would say they don't understand the meaning of cost plus. Don't pay anything until you check. I find that some artistic type people don't do math very well :(
