We have a large detached garage that currently has only one overhead door that we want to make more usable this year (and give a general facelift so it’s less hideous). i would ideally like to have a useable 3 car garage; one that you don’t have to squeeze between the cars. The exterior dimensions are 30’ by 30’, with interior dimensions of 28.5’ by 28.5’. Although we could cram in 3 8’ doors, that’s not what I want to do.

From a floor plan perspective, I would need to add about 7 feet to make it a comfortable width for three cars, but from the front I’m not sure how that would look since the garage doors would need to span from old to new sides.

We could do a 12’ wide by 20’-30’ deep addition off the left side, either with a shed roof or a gabled roof at a right angle to the existing garage and put one overhead door in the addition, then 2 overhead doors and 1 man door in old garage. (Property line to the left is no issue as our property extends past what we mow)

Or, since 1 of the 3 cars is a “summer” car, we could put a 12’ wide by 10’ deep addition off the back to create a tandem garage.

We want to keep the scope reasonable, it is just a garage. We also want it to be less ugly than it is now. The ‘footer’ walls are CMU and as near we can tell, not overly well secured to the concrete slab. There has to be better ideas out there than just these. What do you think?
