unfortunately my dinner plates (unknown variety but they were pink), and my barbershop dahlias didn’t survive over winter. But I have some Go Go dahlias in orange, white, pink and red that I’m very excited about!

Lol I just had to google what Go Go dahlias were. They are beautiful!

I have grown dahlias on and off through the years but never really got the bug to grow them like I want to this year lol. So maybe I'm sorta a newb at dahlias. It will be interesting to see how these all turn out.

I agree the photos of Labyrinth and Chat Noir are pretty. I hope the Chat Noir are as dark dark reddish black as the photos. show. I am putting that one and Spartacus in my new red and purple rose bed. If I can fit in Thomas Edison I may put that one in there as well. I'm guessing they will have to be staked with something very sturdy to keep them off the roses.

SJN - I’ll be interested to see the difference between the Go Go dahlias and others, since they’re much shorter it’s less work for me stalking them, then being sad when they tip over in the wind haha.

I have a garden bed that’s purples and blues and deep reds. And another bed that’s red, pink and white; except for spring when multi colored tulips and crocuses pop up.

my side garden has the goal of cramming in as much color as possible Hahahah

It will be nice not to have to stake them. I think the Pacific Ocean dahlias are supposed to stay under 3 ft. The rest I will have to stake because our soil is somewhat sandy with no rocks. Something wrong with a place that has absolutely no rocks imho lol !!

My red and purple bed will unwittingly have some magenta in it during the hottest summer months because thats what my deep reds do here in the heat. In theory, its red and purple tho lol. I do have some Black and Blue salvia in there so it will have a little blue as well.

I wish I could grow tulips here. Lilacs too! I can only grow tulips as annuals or put them in the fridge. Some winters we actually get cold like a few nights in low 20's or high teens F. Many winters we barely freeze so its totally unreliable on what we can grow. I have a 'greenhouse' I put tender stuff in.

Like you, most of my garden is a mish mash of all kinds of colors. I get an idea of what I want in an area and that lasts a while but then I get too many plants and they all end up crammed together like a rainbow of colors lol.

Haha i made similar choices where i put my dark purples and blues bed in the area that gets the most sun, hopefully they won’t fry too much ( Massachusetts sun isn’t that strong).

Oh no! I completely forgot that warm climates can’t really grow tulips! I eloquently /s/ describe the mosh of colors as “Easter threw up in the garden” hahah

Labyrinth and one of the Cafe au Lait dahlias have a,little sprout today! So excited! I think I have run out of room for dahlias. I need to find a place for Labyrinth and the 2 cafe au laits. I got them for the pink n yellow rose bed but its already too full of plants. Pink is the color of plants I have the most of, apparently lol. I also have 6 hardy hibiscus and nowhere to put them. I dont wanna make another bed this year lol. I might have to go find some new big pots.

I bet Massachusetts is a cool & pretty place to live in the fall!

SJN oh I love those hardy hibiscus! I tend to get all similarly colored flowers too haha.
